How is home design related to home security?

Some homeowners need more security than others. This is especially true for those who live in high-risk areas or those who live in homes that have not been security-proofed.

Every home should be constructed with security in mind. Security here means safety from possible intruders and from catastrophic events like fire and even robbery or break ins.

While there are homes that are really in need of security because of their locations, there are homes that require security because of their designs. These are homes that probably look good, made of glass which gives outsiders a good view of the goings on inside the home.

There are home designs that are aesthetically good but are the worse designs in terms of home security. A person who is having his home designed or constructed should consult a security expert before installing materials or home features that may put their lives in jeopardy.

Home security should be planned and installed as early as during the construction phase of the home. The engineers and the architects would do well to incorporate home security designs when planning the home and even when constructing it to make sure that the family can transfer and live in the home with their security already in place.

One of the home security measures that can already be incorporated in the home design is the alarm system of the whole house. The alarm system consists of wires, infrared rays which can be installed to make them look like regular fixtures of the home.

Of course, it would always be better to give all possible intruders a warning that this house is highly protected to make them think twice and perhaps change their minds before attempting to break in. However, a home security system would also be very valuable if possible intruders decide to break in and then find themselves in the middle of a loud shrill directly connected to the local police or security agents.

For people who aren’t able to incorporate home security fixtures to their home design, there are security lighting fixtures that can be installed in an already completed home. These lighting fixtures serve as home security because when set, they can easily be turned on to light up when an intruder passes by a certain radius.

There are also alarms and automatic door locks that can be installed easily to secure the home from fire, intruders and unexpected guests.

Every homeowner should invest in a quality and dependable home security fixture and incorporate this in his home design to avoid the home security fixtures from sticking out like a sore thumb.

Contemporary Kitchen Design

Posted under Kitchen by admin on Sunday 3 January 2010 at 9:46 pm

Contemporary design is suitable for every room in the house, from the bathroom to the bedroom to the kitchen. Here we present ideas on decorating the kitchen.

I don’t spend a lot of time in my kitchen. I’m single and I don’t like to cook. A microwave oven, a fridge full of TV dinners, and a stack of paper plates suit me just fine.

Which isn’t to say that I don’t want the room itself to look nice. Like the rest of my house, its furnished in a contemporary style – which means very simply, very elegantly, with not a lot of clutter. (I don’t like to dust, either.)

Appliances

The main thing for any kitchen is the appliances, of course. Refrigerators and stoves, microwave ovens and dishwashers seem to be standards these days, along with the kitchen sink. These all come in a variety of sizes and colors, so it’s easy to mix and match if you’re purchasing everything new.

Before you choose these appliances, make sure you visit various home furnishing stores in your area, or surf the web to see all the different designs available. Most homes have old fashions kitchens that look homey, but there are also plenty of styles out there that look and are “space age.” It’s the minimalist look, with everything – such as heating elements – set into counter tops for easy cleaning and sleek appearances.

Pedini USA is one designer of contemporary kitchens. Urban Homes New York offers kitchen redesign services. There are of course many more.

If you’re moving into a home or an apartment already furnished, there’s no need to replace the appliances – provided they work correctly. By choosing the rest of the furnishings of the kitchen appropriately, everything can blend in together.

Cabinets and Drawers

Cabinets and drawers should be functional. It’s not necessary to rip out the present cabinets and start all over, if what’s there already is still structurally sound – simply take off the doors and replace with a more elegant design.

Light

You’ll be able to get quite a bit of light from your windows, if any. It’s always nice to be able stand at the sink washing dishes, preparatory to placing them in the washing machine, while enjoying a view of the outside world, whether it be a grassy yard or a view across the street at other people’s houses.

Windows

There’s no need to decorate windows extravagantly – windows are only portals to a different view of your world, after all. Particularly in the kitchen, wooden shutters, if not properly treated, can swell and warp due to the humidity almost always present there.

Lighting

The kitchen is one room in the house that needs a lot of light – so that you can see what you’re cooking, not to mention what you’re watching. Track lighting above the counter tops and oven is the most efficient method.

Finally, the floor. Simple floors of hardwood look elegant, but since it’s possible to spill quite a lot of liquids in the kitchen – from stray ice popping out of the ice machine to droplets while washing dishes – it would be necessary to wipe up these spills immediately so that they don’t damage the wood. Tile floors are safer, and in keeping with a minimalist style should be a single, solid color.

Decor

As with every room of the house, decor should be kept to a minimum. Everything should be functional. A vase with a few flowers by the window, or some plates on top of the cabinets (if they don’t reach all the way up to the ceiling) can add a bit of color, but not get in the way.

Why hire home security professionals?

Security has always been a top concern among homeowners especially those who have valuable property to protect. It is best to be prepared for any eventuality by having home security protection rather than be sorry for failing to install one when someone has already broken inside the home.

Anyone who is concerned about home security protection should research on the different home security products and systems that are available on the market. Knowing which home security products will work best for the type of home it’s going to be used in will make any expenses for the home security well worth it.

However, the homeowner shouldn’t rely on his own judgment as to which among the various home security products will work best with his home. He should also ask the advice of home security professionals because they are the people who are most knowledgeable about home protection.

Home security professionals will help the homeowner choose from the various home security products that have flooded the market. A layman would be so confused with all the available home security products and he wouldn’t be able to make the best judgment as to which of these products should be bought.

Consulting a home security professional will make the job easier for anyone because home security is the forte of these people. They are always on the lookout for new home security products that aren’t only affordable but efficient.

Getting a home security professional who will take charge of installing the home security product in a certain home will help a lot in lessening the insurance for such abode. Furthermore, a home security product chosen and installed by a home security professional will always make the homeowner more secured in the thought that a professional did the job.

Home security professionals have the experience and the proper training so they will be more suitable for the job of installing a security system for any home. Some of these people can also get home security products for a lesser amount than if the homeowner himself bought the product.

However, the homeowner must first research on the qualifications and the reputation of the home security professional he will be hiring. He can also ask referrals from his friends who have already hired home security professionals.

Hiring a home security professional as a consultant to any home security project would entail costs but if the homeowner is serious about his home security then this is the best way to go.

Add Space to your Small Kitchen With These Decorating Ideas

Posted under Kitchen by admin on Friday 1 January 2010 at 10:07 pm

A small kitchen is as challenging to decorate as a big one, but that doesn’t mean you should stop right there and allow the size to turn you off. Here are some decorating ideas you can use for a small kitchen that will help you maximize the space and still come up with a great-looking area:

1. Think small to medium size

A small kitchen will do well with smaller items. Don’t eat up the space with bulky furnishings and appliances. Go for slimmer appliances and kitchen cabinets instead. They can offer you the functions you need and will give you the space that you want.

2. Paint it big

If you’re partial to dark colors, you will have to compromise. Dark colors will make your kitchen space look smaller. Choose lighter colors instead, such as taupe, light blue, white or yellow. Use these not only on your walls and ceiling but also on cabinets, countertops and appliances as well.

Light colors have a way of expanding your visuals and creating space where it is limited. They also make your kitchen look brighter and livelier.

3. Choose function over form

A small kitchen will limit the number of furnishings and appliances you can put in. Even if you have your heart set on a nice family table, you can’t use it in your kitchen if it’s too large.

Choose items that can have double functions. A plain work table, for example, can be used with which to prepare meals in and then double as a breakfast table or a serving table during parties. Try tables that can be extended, pulled out or retracted. These save space but also provide much needed areas you can work on.

Instead of adding more cabinets, try ceiling racks made with wrought iron or strong varnished wood. These are great places from which to hang pots, pans and cooking utensils. These items are also easier to find and store.

Ideas For Your Home Decorating

If you happen to be like most people while you are doing some home decorating you may be a bit scared of how everything will appear when you are all done. All that you need to do is follow some simple rules and everything will turn out just how you first thought it would.

Most have a false impression that the room needs to be perfectly picked up and clean. This happens to not be the case and no home needs to be this way. You home can be messy it means that it is in fact lived in, clean is the main thing.

You are living in your house so it should be decorated the way that you would like it to be. When you are shopping for anything for your home don’t think that anything will grow on you. This is because you do not want to feel stuck with anything.

Anything that is a print should be combined with colors but they should not be matched. This works well if you combine your favored color in any room with any accessories that happen to blend with the print . When you are putting prints in any room be certain that you are not making your room look racy.

Put an area rug, a lamp or two, and some pictures but not too many. You happen to be decorating your home not anything else. Anywhere an area rug is a great decorating tool. There are many different colors that are available that will warm any floor surface and also protect it.

Whatever you decide to decorate with remember that it is easiest to keep your job fun. Also keep all of your decorating simple it really should not be complicated.
